Operation Overlord was the name of the Allied landings in France on the Normandy region in June of 1944. Through the London-based État-major des Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur (French Forces of the Interior), the British Special Operations Executive, SOE, orchestrated a campaign of sabotage to be implemented by the French Resistance on notification of the execution of Operation Neptune, the assault phase of the Normandy landings, via the BBC's French service from London. The SOE, in coordination with the Americans specialist intelligence agency the Office of Strategic Services, developed four plans to be executed by the French Resistance.

Plan Vert was a 15-day operation to sabotage the rail system.
Plan Bleu dealt with destroying electrical facilities.
Plan Tortue was a delaying operation aimed at the enemy forces that would potentially reinforce Axis forces at Normandy.
Plan Violet dealt with cutting underground telephone and teleprinter cables.

Plan Tortue, the focus of this mission, called for FFI forces, supported by SOE/OSS agents, specialist Jedburgh teams and elements of the British Special Air Service, to ambush, neutralise or otherwise impede German units moving to the front to reinforce the beachheads established at Normandy.

8th June 1944, Manche Region, France - With the Allied landings in Normandy 2 days prior, elements of the French resistance begin operations within the Manche Region to stall German reinforcements moving to the front.
