In 1961, under the directive of President John F. Kennedy, special forces units were activated to counter the escalating Viet Cong insurgency in Vietnam. Among these elite units, the 5th Special Forces Group (5th SFG) played a pivotal role.
Our unit, designated as the 1st Platoon, A Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th SFG, is currently deployed to Camp Sarge. Our primary mission is to disrupt and counteract the escalating activities of the Viet Cong (VC) in this region. Our objectives are twofold: to deter support for the VC and to minimise the likelihood of a substantial offensive by the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) forces in the northern part of the region.
