In the winter of 1939, as the bitter winds of the Winter War howled through the Nordic landscapes, a peculiar and dramatic incident unfolded on the Finnish island of Suursaari. A Soviet cargo ship, the symbol of an impending conflict, had beached on the shores of this remote island after trouble at sea.

The war, triggered by Soviet aggression, had Finland fighting for its sovereignty. The sight of the Soviet vessel stranded on the island was a stark reminder of the hostilities, echoing through the frosty silence. Suursaari, situated in the Gulf of Finland, was the unexpected stage for this maritime drama.

Ultimately the small detachment of soviet soldiers on board we’re able to unload a selection of logistics vehicles and equipment from the ship, before the cargo holds finally slipped below the icy water.

A month has since passed, and the small Soviet force has occupied the populated North of the island ruling with an iron first over the Finnish inhabitants. The Sole NKVD officer on-board has initiated a communist crusade, requisitioning a small troop of like-minded troops to aid in his systematic purge of any civilians deemed to ‘incompatible’ with his ideology.

Fortunately, the Finnish locals we’re able to secrete a cache of arms and equipment in a small cave network unknown to the Soviet occupiers and sent word to the mainland, through the ingenious use of the island’s lighthouse to send morse-code. Resulting in a Jaeger troop being dispatched to dislodge the Soviet invaders.

To avoid a coordinated defence, the Jaegers must first sever the islands communication network by destroying the soviet radio relay. Then through the use of stealth, and superior tactics the troop must overwhelm and destroy the last bastions of Soviet rule in Suursaari.
