In the 1980s, tensions between East Germany and West Germany had escalated to a point where both sides were on the brink of war. It had been decades since the division of Germany after World War II, and both sides had entrenched themselves in their ideologies, political systems, and economic structures.

In the early 1980s, East Germany developed a series of new missile technologies that caught the attention of the West. The West feared that these missiles could be used to launch an attack on Western Europe, and tensions began to rise.

At the same time, West Germany had developed a new weapon system, a weapon that was capable of shooting down incoming missiles. It was called Arrow 2 and was made in collaboration with the United States of America. The East viewed this weapon as a direct threat to their missile capabilities, and they responded by increasing their military presence along the border.

In 1980 West German forces shot down an Eastern reconnaissance plane that was cruising the border. By Western records, the reconnaissance plane entered West German airspace and refused to respond to radio.

In response, the East launched a retaliatory strike on West German military installation, and the two sides were soon engaged in a full-blown war. The fighting was brutal, with both sides using conventional and unconventional weapons.

In this conflict that lasted 20 days, the United States of America and the Soviet Union did not get involved overtly, since this would lead to the 3rd World War..

The Cold War between East and West Germany had been a reminder of the dangers of ideological and political divisions. It would take a long time for Germany to heal from the wounds of the conflict, but the eventual reunification of the country would be a symbol of hope for a world that had been scarred by decades of conflict.

On March 25, 1980, West Germany launched the great counter-offensive with the aim of recapturing all the territories that the East German army had won in the previous period.
