The withdrawal of NATO and UN forces in the 2010s left Takistan in a state of near-anarchy. The central government in Takmyr struggled to assert authority, and the rural hinterlands fell under the sway of warlords and tribal leaders. The economy, heavily reliant on oil and mineral exports, suffered from corruption, smuggling, and the illicit drug trade. By the late 2020s, the monarchy's grip on power was increasingly tenuous, with the urban elite insulated from the poverty and discontent of the rural majority. The Royal Takistani Army (RTA) is a large but unevenly equipped force. Its mainline units are organized into armored, mechanized, and infantry brigades, supported by artillery, air defense, and logistics elements. The army's inventory is a patchwork of Cold War-era Soviet and Western equipment, reflecting decades of shifting alliances and opportunistic procurement. The mainline army is underfunded and suffers from poor morale, limited training, and unreliable supply chains. Conscripts are often drawn from rural areas, with minimal access to modern gear or body armor. Commanders are frequently political appointees, and unit loyalty is fragmented. In contrast, the Royal Guard is an elite, well-funded unit tasked with protecting the monarchy and conducting sensitive operations. Numbering fewer than 500 personnel, the Royal Guard receives the best training, equipment, and intelligence support available in Takistan.

By 2029, Takistan was a powder keg. Economic decline, rural impoverishment, and military disaffection created an environment ripe for upheaval. Colonel Aziz, a charismatic and ruthless officer with a history of socialist activism, emerged as the leader of a clandestine revolutionary network. Drawing support from disaffected army units, urban workers, and rural militants, Aziz orchestrated a plan to seize power through simultaneous assaults on major cities. On May 29, 2030, socialist forces launched coordinated attacks on Takmyr, Zargabad, and other urban centers. The primary assault targeted Takmyr, aiming to capture the royal palace and eliminate the monarchy. In Zargabad, the situation was complicated by the King's presence—he was conducting a high-profile visit to the city, intended as a gesture of reconciliation with local socialists but interpreted by many as a provocation. Zargabad became the epicenter of resistance. Royal Guard units and the few remaining regulars loyal to the kingdom, reinforced by ION PMC teams did all they could to defend the city and the king. Civilian considerations were paramount. Defenders sought to minimize collateral damage and maintain access to water and medical supplies, while insurgents attempted to infiltrate disguised as refugees.

As the rest of the country fell to the coup, Zargabad held out. The King's presence galvanized royalist morale which allowed the combined Royalist - ION force to fight fiercely in the streets. The city briefly became an enclave of royalist control. However, the broader strategic situation was untenable. After many hours of intense fighting, a plane has arrived in Zargabad airport and the king was evacuated. After the remaining royalists were dispersed, the monarchy was forced into exile, and Colonel Aziz declared the establishment of the Takistani Socialist Republic.

Foreign governments, particularly the United States and NATO allies, monitored the situation closely. While official intervention was politically untenable, covert support—including intelligence sharing, arms shipments, and the deployment of PMCs like ION provided the monarchy with critical lifelines.

Colonel Aziz moved quickly to consolidate power, purging disloyal officers, co-opting tribal leaders, and deploying propaganda to legitimize the new regime. Pockets of royalist resistance persisted in the countryside, but the balance of power had shifted decisively. The fate of Takistan and the prospects for future intervention remained uncertain.
